April Foodie Penpals!

The Lean Green Bean

This was the second month that I participated in the #foodiepenpals program and I've got to tell you, it's so ah-mazing! I was paired up with Brooke Zigler. You can find her on Twitter here @brookezigler. She's from the DC area and she sent me some fun things!

All the goodies I received from Brooke!
Let's go in close on some of these things - we'll start with the sweet potato chips. There is really only one word that I can think of to describe these chips and that is YUM! Holy cow. I had a hard time not eating the whole bag in one sitting. Writing this reminds me that I still have some left and I may need to go grab them and eat them with my dinner. Anyway - YUM. Get some. You won't regret it!

Next we've got the bean mix (from a local shop near DC!) and the agave nectar. Now I'm just now getting into cooking beans so I'm waiting to find a recipe in which I can use these little legumes. If you know a good recipe, please send it my way. I really enjoy honey and told Brooke this, so she sent me some agave nectar to try. I haven't made anything that needed any sweetening yet, but when I do, this stuff is going to get used! Also - sorry this picture sucks.
Finally, we've got the chocolate and the almond butter. The chocolate that Brooke sent was from a recent trip that she took to Spain! It was 70% dark and muy delicioso! The almond butter is sitting on my desk at work waiting to be eaten as a snack some day when I've got a little craving! I've never had any of the Justin's butters, so I'm excited to have received this.

If you are interested in participating in the #foodiepenpals program, below is a little bit of information about it!

-On the 5th of the month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treatsThe spending limit is $15The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you can choose to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
- Foodie Penpals is open to US, Canadian residents & UK residents.  Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa. So, I’m going to keep two separate lists and match US w/ US and Canada w/ Canada!
***If you’re in the UK, please contact Carol Anne from This Is Rock Salt at rocksalt@thisisrocksalt.com to get involved!

  1. I'm glad you enjoyed the package!! You should totally try the agave with some greek yogurt. I've never actually tried Justin's products yet, either! But I see other foodie penpals receiving it, and I figured it MUST be good. Maybe I'll just buy a pack for myself one day :)

  2. The Justin's nut butteres are awesome! I'm a big fan of the peanut butter with honey and the chocolate hazelnut. So good! And great for putting on veggies or apples at work for a quick snack.
