May Foodie Pen Pals Reveal!!

The Lean Green Bean

Can you believe that another month has come and gone already? This year is going to be over before we know it. But I digress.

Let's get to the purpose of this post! This month I was matched with Rhonda over at http://therhoyalreport.wordpress.com/ and @RhoyalSocialite on Twitter. Before I show you the pictures of the goodies that she sent me I must make a confession.

I'm a popcorn-aholic. It's my absolute favorite food in the entire world. I wasn't quite this forthcoming when Rhonda was asking me what I'd like to receive in my package, but boy oh boy did she hit it out of the park (convenient since she's from Chicago).

We were out of town for 8 days during the time when we were supposed to be sending and receiving packages, but that didn't stop me from participating. I was just more on the ball this month! We got home on Monday the 21 and I received my package on Wednesday the 23. It's always so exciting to come home from work to something yummy!

I got a box full of popcorn and brownies!
2 brownies and a tub of popcorn!!!
The brownies are from Rhonda's own bakery. In her note, which you'll see in a moment she gave me a hint - put them in the freezer and eat them a bite at a time (Mmmmm Hmmmm. Yeah right! I thought the same thing). I've eaten the cream cheese brownie, there on the left. It was frozen. I ate it in one sitting. But I did share with David.

Here's a better picture of the chocolate-y goodness!

Now that I'm writing this I think I'll go eat the one on the right!
The popcorn is next. And folks, I just have to say that normally I'm a butter and salt kinda gal. But man oh man was this popcorn divine. Or should I say - decadent. It was cheesy and it was caramel-y. It was the perfect combination of sweet and salt. I managed to do a really good job of just having a few bites here and there, but then one night a friend was over and we indulged in a little too much adult beverage and I ended up eating the rest of the container (that's also when the brownie was consumed). But I still remember every bite. I've never been to Chicago, but this popcorn really made me want to go visit. By the way, did you know that popcorn is the official snack of the state of Illinois? Yep, you can see that right here. I know, I know. I'm stalling. I don't really want to share this with you because then I might not get any more.

Who out there really loves cheesy popcorn? Because if you do, you MUST get some of this popcorn stat. Look at it:
Try not to lick your screen!
Here's another view of a completely covered cheesy kernel:
Seeing the picture makes me salivate.
And finally a picture of the same cheesy kernel alongside a caramel kernel. Try to resist the temptation. I dare you.
Some of the caramel were covered in cheese too. *Sigh*
I also like to show the note that was sent because we never receive enough hand written anything anymore. Rhonda has handwriting similar to my best friend, so that made me smile (not as much as the popcorn, but still, I smiled!).

Thank you very much Rhonda! It was wonderful.

If you are interested in participating in Foodie Pen Pals check out the information below:
And now it's time for some details about Foodie Penpals.  In case you’re a new reader, here’s a reminder of what the program is all about:
-On the 5th of every month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
-Foodie Penplas is open to US & Canadian residents.  Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We've determined things might get too slow and backed up if we're trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa.
If you’re interested in participating for June, please CLICK HERE to fill out the participation form and read the terms and conditions.
You must submit your information by June 4th as pairings will be emailed on June 5th!

*If you're from somewhere besides the US, Canada or Europe and want to participate, send me an email and I'll see if we get enough interest this month!

Happy Eating!
